If you are a fan of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge but you can’t or don’t want to spend a lot of money on a smartphone, you should take a look at the Bluboo Edge: the device costs N64,000 besides that, has more to offer than a curved edge display with premium specs and features.
Smartphones with curved displays are still exotic products there are a few of them around and the models are usually on the expensive side. However, phone manufacturer Bluboo wishes to change that. The company has now introduced its borderless Bluboo Edge smartphone a device with a curved screen panel on the front, which goes all the way from one side to the other, leaving minimal space for side bezels, a metal frame with glass back, mid-range hardware, and very aggressive cheap price tag.
The Edge’s display is a 5.5-inch panel with a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution, protected by a sheet of scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 4. There is a dual-layer touch panel underneath the glass, which makes sure the phone will detect the faintest tap, and that it can be operated with gloves or even wet hands.
On the inside, a quad-core MediaTek MT6737 hums at 1.3 GHz. The phone has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, which is expandable via microSD of up to 256 GB. The juicer in the trunk is a 2,600 Li-polymer battery, which Bluboo praises for being thinner and safer than a Li-ion juice box. The phone features a fingerprint scanner, embedded into the physical home button on the front. The operating system is Android 6 Marshmallow with a light re-skin to the UI.
The main camera sports an 8 MP Sony IMX219 sensor and the selfie snapper has a 5 MP one. Bluboo employs some software interpolation magic in order to enhance the cameras’ capabilities — the back-facing one can take photos of up to 13 MP, while the front one can take 8 MP selfies.
The phone supports 4G LTE over band 1 (2100 MHz), band 3 (1800 MHz), band 7 (2600 MHz), and band 20 (800 MHz). 3G connectivity is available over band 5 (850 MHz) and band 1 (2100 MHz). It can hold two SIM cards and supports dual standby, though, you will have to sacrifice the microSD slot if you wish to go this route.
Bluboo Edge recorded over 30,000 pre-orders in the first week, Meanwhile, the smartphone is currently sold in Nigeria for N64,000. For a small bag of money, you can get a smartphone with decent equipment, and the cool look of the Galaxy S7 Edge with curved display.
