WhatsApp, the popular Meta-owned instant messaging platform, is rolling out a new ability that allows users to pin messages at the top of a chat conversation.
This feature is available for both individual and group chats.
WhatsApp Now Lets You Pin Messages In Chats
The new feature allows users to highlight an important message at the top of any ongoing one-on-one and group conversation. Further, users can pin all types of content, including text messages, files, emojis, pictures, polls, videos, and more, within chats on WhatsApp. However, only one message can be pinned in one chat at a time.
Users can also select how long the pinned message will last at the top of a group chat — 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days, after which the pinned message will get unpinned automatically. They can unpin a message anytime, even before the selected duration expires.
To pin a message in a WhatsApp chat, users need to long-press a message to get the context menu, which will allow them to choose a new ‘Pin’ option. This will display a banner that will enable the user to select the duration of the pinned message – 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. Please note that 7 Days is the default choice. To unpin a message, the user needs to long-press it and select the ‘Unpin’ option.
In WhatsApp groups, Group admins can decide whether only admins or all group members can choose to pin a message. When a message is pinned in a group chat, everyone in the chat will receive a system message indicating that a message has been pinned and who pinned it.
Further, users can’t see a pinned message if they join a group after it is sent, if they have lost or cleared their chat history, or if they have deleted the message before it was pinned.
Like all the other messages on WhatsApp, these pinned chats will have end-to-end encryption. The pinned message feature on the messaging platform is available to all Android, iOS, Desktop, and Web users.

Recently, WhatsApp announced that it is introducing support for disappearing voice messages to improve user privacy and security within the app.
