WhatsApp, the popular Meta-owned instant messaging platform, is reportedly testing a new optional feature that will block iOS users from taking screenshots of profile photos.

WhatsApp will soon block iPhone users from taking screenshots of profile pictures

WABetaInfo, a known WhatsApp tipster publication, discovered the new feature in the latest WhatsApp beta version for iOS 24.10.10.70, which can be installed via the TestFlight app.

“It appears that WhatsApp is in the process of introducing this feature even on the iOS app, as discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.10.10.70 update from the TestFlight app,” WABetaInfo reported.

For those unaware, the above feature is already live on the Android platform, which prevents Android users from capturing a photo of the profile picture and displays the message, “This app does not allow screenshots.”

Further, the new privacy feature will block screenshot capture by default, which means you cannot change the privacy settings to disable the feature manually.

This new privacy feature is designed to empower iOS users by preventing them from taking screenshots of profile photos. It significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized sharing and distribution of personal images without the owner’s consent, giving you more control over your personal information.

“While the feature will not entirely eliminate the risk of unauthorised image capture, we believe that it represents a significant step toward reinforcing privacy. By stopping the ability to take screenshots of profile photos, WhatsApp will reduce the risk of these photos being misused or distributed without proper authorization in the future,” the report said/

Currently, the feature to block people from taking screenshots of profile pictures is under development, and it will be available in a future update to the app. Keep watching this space for more updates as this story develops!
