On Tuesday, Google announced that it had added two new Gemini AI-powered features in Gmail updates, which are now available for Gmail users on the web, Android, and iOS. These Gemini AI features will help Gmail users refine their email drafts even faster.

In a Google Workspace blog post on Tuesday, the company said that the two new Gemini features for Gmail have been built upon their popular Help me write feature and the recently launched summarization feature in the Gmail mobile app.

Let’s have a look at the two new AI-powered “Help me write” features in Gmail:

POLISH: The newly introduced Polish option is particularly useful for those who habitually write rough notes into a draft. This option can turn the rough content into a completely formal or more elaborate draft, ready for you to review in one click. Further, this functionality comes with options such as Formalize, Elaborate, and Shorten. The Polish option is available on the web, Android, and iOS platforms.

SHORTCUTS: Google has also introduced shortcuts for “Help me write” and “Refine my draft” on Android and iOS devices. For instance, if you are using Gmail on an iOS or Android device and the email draft is empty, the “Help me write” shortcut will appear in the body of the email. When selected, this shortcut will open the full Help me write experience.

On the other hand, the “Refine my draft” shortcut will appear when 12+ words are present in an email draft. This shortcut will be shown below the email content to suggest options, such as Polish, Formalize, Elaborate, Shorten your draft, or Write a new draft. Swiping right on the “Refine my draft” shortcut will trigger this menu containing the abovementioned options. Google says this shortcut feature is enabled by default and cannot be disabled.

The new feature and the shortcuts are limited to Google Workspace customers who have subscribed to the Gemini Business and Enterprise add-on, Gemini Education and Education Premium add-on, as well as Google One AI Premium plan.
