In the world of PC gaming, everything is constantly improving and it’s not enough that you have the accessories like the best wireless router for gaming, the latest monitor or a better gaming keyboard. Players should also think about ways on how they can improve the performance of the PC itself; here are 6 ways that players can try when they want to improve their gaming time.

  1. Upgrade Graphics Driver

First step is to identify the PCs graphic card and once it has been identified, go to the display adapters. On majority of machines, you should be able to see Intel as well as NVIDIA hardware. But in some machines you might only see the AMD hardware. By improving the graphics card, you’ll be able to improve your gaming. By knowing the model of your graphics card, you can visit their official website and see if an updated version is available.

  1. Remove Old Programs

Computers that contain tons of programs tend to run a lot slower. By completely removing programs that you don’t really need, you improve the efficiency and performance of the PC. Simply go to the PC’s control panel and visit the ‘uninstall program’ section. Organize the tab to the ‘date last used’ in order to see which programs you have not used in a long time. Finally, uninstall all the unused programs; be careful what you remove though.

  1. Overclocking the GPU

Before everything else, be sure that the GPU can actually be overclocked; if not then you might want to try other methods. When you overclock the GPU, you run the graphics way beyond the original factory setting. Take note that this can be seriously damaging. So take all possible precautions, determine the current baseline of your graphics card. Next step is to download free benchmarking software; one of the most popular would be the Heaven 4.0 benchmark. Open the program, set the resolution system and run it. Click on the benchmark and write down the score and apply all changes. Now, you can download a GPU tweaking tool an open the application once it’s finished. Raise the core from 5 to 10 MHz and apply all the changes.

  1. Disable Prefetch and Superfetch

Open the start menu, type ‘regedit’ into the search box and click the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters. Right click both the ‘EnablePrefetcher’ and ‘EnablePrefetcher’ in order to modify the value data from 3 to 0. Afterwards, restart the computer and you’re good to go.

  1. TRIM or Defragment Your Disk

Go to the start menu, click the all programs and accessories then go to ‘System Tools.’ Files cam become fragmented when you click them, you need to remove the fragments in order to improve the performance. Select the Windows Disk, but for those that have Windows 8 you might want to skip this tip. Next is to select the ‘Defragment Disk’, those that have SSD avoid defragmenting the computer. Then, click ‘optimize’ which will then initiate the TRIM command. Make sure to check if the TRIM was actually enabled by opening command prompt and typing a single command. Press start and type ‘CMD’ and search. Click the Run as Administrator and finally enter “Fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify”, you should be able to see ‘0’ if it’s supported.

  1. Adjust the ATI/AMD Control Panel

Go to your desktop and click the ‘Catalyst Control Center’ and open the Manage 3D settings. These settings can be found on the left side; you’ll be able to change the graphic settings here when optimizing the gameplay. Lastly, personalize the settings, every player and game will require varying personalized settings.
